It's senior year and you've decided that the studio formal pictures for the yearbook just aren't going to cut it. You've realized this year, this big transitional moment in your life, calls for something more special than a velvet wrap and grey backdrop. But where to start? How do you even begin planning? Start with what you love!
Are you involved in a sport at school? Do you play an instrument? Do you volunteer at a riding camp at a local horse stable? When you choose a professional photographer, to take your senior portraits this year, ask her if she helps you plan and if she's willing to go to a special location. Your photographer should be able to give you great suggestions on locations that make you feel special and comfortable in your environment and feature your interests and style.
When Natalie filled out the questionnaire I sent her, she said she wanted both a unique location and also some nature. For the unique location she wanted preferably one that incorporated her love of music and books. She was also involved in her drama department at The Walker School and hopefully she'll be able to carry that over into her freshman year at The College of Charleston. I suggested independent record store, Sweet Melissa Records, for the first part of her session and she chose the most perfect outfit for it! I love those white boots with her green skirt and black sweater!
Easily Changing the Look of an Outfit for Your Senior Session
Being able to show off multiple aspects of your personality can be done easily by moving your session to a different type of location and by choosing outfits that reflect that as well. When you love a lot of different things you really don't want to limit yourself to just one type of location or one kind of look. It's totally okay to love both the city and nature and to try to show that off in your senior pictures! Luckily, in metro Atlanta, combining locations isn't too difficult. There really are so many places to go where you find a field or a garden close to an urban location or something unique like a colorful wall mural.
For Natalie's session, we took a few minutes to drive over to Kennesaw Mountain to finish her session with golden light and an open field. It was the perfect place to wear this black dress embroidered with butterflies! She layered this sheer button-up top over it and then to change things up we took some images without the top also. Having something to layer over your outfit is one of the easiest ways to get multiple looks and more variety in your pictures!
Natalie has these beautiful blond curls and the most amazing smile! We had so much fun at her session and I'm so thankful she asked me to be her senior photographer this year!
