Oh my gosh, this guy is so awesome! Coleman is one of those people who you instantly feel comfortable around and his mom, Jaime, is exactly the same way so I think he must get at least part of that quality from her. We had a great time taking his senior portraits in Alpharetta!
Coleman wanted wear some of his favorite sweats because that's definitely what he feels the most comfortable wearing and a city location is always perfect for this look! Sometimes moms get a little worried about their sons' outfit choices and don't want them going this casual but Jaime trusted him and I like to tell moms to let their sons choose at least one outfit completely on their own and they can't object to his choice. I always think the right pair of pants and a nice sweatshirt or hoodie looks great in senior pictures and I let my sons wear at least one outfit like that for their sessions also. I like this look a lot more than athletic shorts which end up looking too casual for portraits so this is a great compromise to do a casual outfit but still look put together! The right shoes really make all the difference for a casual outfit, though, and in the city your white sneakers will stay clean unlike taking them to a nature location where the ground can be muddy or wet.
At the end of Coleman's session, I made sure to grab a picture of him and his mom together and this ended up being her family's favorite picture! Sometimes I warn parents ahead of time that I'm going to want to get an image of them also and sometimes I forget to mention it. I never want a parent to worry about how THEY look at their kid's session because that can just introduce a whole level of stress that isn't necessary. I figure they have enough going on just to help their kids get ready without having to think about being "picture ready" also. But I will take one whether they're prepared or not and I love when parents don't object too much even if they're not all dressed up or have their hair and makeup just right. This is a memorable occasion and I just like to get a picture of you together...it doesn't have to get posted on Facebook or printed as a 24x30 and framed over the fireplace. In this digital age, it's hard to remember that not every picture needs to be perfect or to be shared even when it is perfect. There used to be a time when we just took pictures as part of our experience and for memories and I like bringing that element back into my sessions!
Coleman played lacrosse at Milton High School and it was important to him to include his sport into his senior session. Downtown Alpharetta isn't exactly the best place to include something like that and I think it feels way more significant to take sports pictures on your home field or court whenever possible. Sometimes that means we need to break your session into two separate parts. It's one of the reasons I limit how many sessions I schedule each week. Having only two sessions per week allows me time to reschedule in case of rain or sickness and it also means I'm available to work in an extra time to meet you somewhere else on a different day when we need to.
I met Coleman at school one morning during the semester break which worked out really well since there were no other students around. We had the field completely to ourselves and absolutely gorgeous weather! I absolutely love the blue skies in these images!
Coleman, I'm so excited for you as you're starting at Ole Miss and I hope your first year there will be incredible! Thank you so much for asking me to take your senior portraits!
