WARNING! You are NOT ready for this post. Heck! I'M not ready for this post and I've actually been looking forward to this post all year!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and declare this one of THE BEST SESSIONS of my entire career.
There.
I said it.
And I don't mind telling you that I wasn't sure how I was going to pull it off when Maya contacted me and requested a field of flowers in September. Honestly, most of the flower fields are in bloom in late June and July and by the time September rolls around they're few and far between. And then BAM! I found this gem of a location on Instagram and drove up to Ellijay a couple days before her session was scheduled just so I could ask for permission in person to use this property.
It was nothing short of magical.
We had the whole place to ourselves and beautiful weather and Maya is freaking gorgeous and wore the most adorable outfits and there were butterflies and a mountain view and zinnias and her violin and and and!!! If I ever top this session I'll probably retire on the spot. *mic drop

My plan this year is to stretch myself more creatively at every single session this coming year. Whether that's doing double exposures or light leaks or using my Yashica 24 like I did here with Maya. The Yashica 24 a is square format twin lens reflex camera (tlr). It's a little tricky to work with because you have to look down into the camera rather than through a viewfinder. The image is reversed (mirror) and getting the horizon straight and composing your image requires being able to think backwards. A little like when you're backing up your car or styling your hair in the mirror...sort of. It also has quite a few limitations when it comes to shutter speed and aperture and getting the image properly exposed. But it is a lot of fun to use! It's like stepping back in time.
These 3 images below were all taken with the Yashica 24 and I love them! Especially the final image of Maya running away. Definitely album cover worthy!
Maya really outdid herself in the outfit department! She brought the perfect mix of vintage girly and 90's era feminine grunge. I love mixing patterns like this plaid button-up with the floral tank underneath and the striped wrap sweater over her brown top with shorts is adorable also!
To finish up the session Maya wanted to make sure to incorporate her flute into some of her senior pictures. This beautiful field was the perfect spot for this! I love finding open spaces here in North Georgia because they can be hard to find with all our trees.
Her entire session felt like something out of a fairytale! Thank you, Maya, for asking me to be your senior photographer this year! It was such an honor to do this for you and I have loved getting to watch you play flute in marching band, orchestra and in the pit for Cinderella and getting to see you and Sequoyah's Winterguard perform this year! You are an amazing young woman and I'm thankful to know you!
