I always think deciding what to wear for your senior portraits is probably the hardest part about the whole process. I do my best to help by sending out a Welcome Guide with lots of tips and I will send you specific suggestions from stores you usually shop from if that is helpful. I can do some online window shopping for you if you're having trouble finding a particular look and I even have some gorgeous dresses and rompers in my Style Closet for you to borrow! I want your session to be as stress-free as possible!
I don't think Robin needed a lot of help from me with choosing her outfits but I'll definitely be sending her session as a helpful example to other students! She has incredible style and I love that she embraced the idea of really dressing up for her pictures. This is a special occasion! While it's totally fine to wear an outfit or two that feels like something you might wear on a regular basis, it's really good to take it to the next level and bring some outfits that are more dressed up.
Robin wanted an urban location but also wanted to do part of her session with her horse. That meant we needed to find a city location relatively close to her stable so that we weren't wasting a lot of time driving in between places. It was especially important not to be wasting time the day of her session because we had a brief rain shower in the middle which limited how much time we could spend actually taking pictures! We decided downtown Milton was a perfect spot to start and then we were only 15 minutes from the last location on the farm.
Senior Portraits with Horses
We were really lucky to get a break in the rain for the last part of her session! Robin's horse, Harry, was in the field with another horse, Kermit, and they are so cute!
Robin wanted to be barefoot with this dress which meant we needed to be especially careful around the horse and also watch for ants and any prickly grass and plants. But it's such a pretty carefree look and well worth the extra effort!
Because the rain from the first day put us a little behind, I didn't capture quite as many images as I normally do so I asked if she was up for meeting me a second time just to grab a few more. It worked out great to schedule a second day because it meant she could wear another dress she was hoping to use and it also happened that when we returned that there were yellow flowers blanketing the pasture!
I only schedule 2 sessions per week and this gives me the flexibility I need to work in an extra day if we need it or to reschedule in case of rain or sickness. I'm so glad I had that room on my calendar to be able to do that for Robin!
