I schedule a majority of my sessions in the evening. I do this for several reasons: the light is softer, it gives students more time to get ready, it keeps you from having to take time off school, and, in the warmer months, it allows the temperature to come down enough to be tolerable. Last summer, however, I had several students who asked to do their session in the morning instead of the evening so we could get started before the temperatures were unbearable. It was actually a great idea! Especially if you're more of a morning person anyhow and don't mind being up before the sun.
Caroline was one of those people! She opted for a morning appointment and wanted an urban location. I had never used this spot in the morning but I know the area well enough by now to know that it was going to be just as great a location at the beginning of the day as it is in the evening!
Caroline is incredibly creative and was open to me taking some double exposures during her session. I love the feeling they bring to her portraits!
Morning Sessions in the City
One of the added benefits of a morning appointment on a Sunday is that there is virtually no one else around! This neighborhood isn't typically busy anyhow but in the morning there was no one out and about and we had it all to ourselves.
Caroline is a big advocate for sustainable fashion and thrifting and she brought the most incredible outfits! I love her eye for unique pieces that really showed off her style and personality. If you're like Caroline and are trying to be a responsible consumer, I highly suggest getting the Good On You app to see how they rank different brands on things like their environmental impact and how ethically they treat their workers. We have so many great thrift stores in Atlanta so check those out also and both Poshmark and Depop are incredible resources for finding items second hand.
