It really goes without saying that when I took Austin's pictures last fall that none of us imagined senior year would end like this. Class of 2020 is having to deal with a lot of disappointment and uncertainty. One of my favorite things about Austin was seeing him across the gym leading the student section at every basketball game. I know how much he must be missing all of the end of year events.
I'm so glad we were able to get his pictures done early in the school year and it's one of my favorite sessions I've ever done. Sessions at Lake Allatoona are always fun because there are so many different backgrounds/locations to shoot at and it gives clients a chance to just relax and be themselves.
I asked Austin yesterday what he's missing most during this Shelter In Place and having school canceled for the rest of the year and what he's most looking forward to when this is all over. He told me, "Honestly, I never thought I would say this, but I miss school. I wasn't ready to step in the building for the last time and I miss spending the day with my friends and teachers. I'm kinda bummed about prom probably getting canceled but I'm hopeful that we can still have graduation. I'm most looking forward to going to one of my friends' houses and having all the guys come over and just spend time with each other again. I miss them."
I don't have any idea what you're all going through but I do know that Class of 2020 is one of the greatest groups of kids I've ever met and I know you'll come out of this even stronger than before. I've never seen a class that has such strong friendships as all of you and I'm thankful you have each other.
It's strange to be talking so early about moving forward and looking to the fall when you'll start college but identifying the things you're looking forward to is helpful. Austin, along with a bunch of students I know, will be attending University of Georgia and I asked him why he chose UGA. "I chose UGA because it's been my dream school for as long as I can remember. My dad went there so I grew up a huge Dawg fan and I always dreamed about being able to go there one day, especially for the football." So STAY HOME, everyone! We need this thing under control before college football season! Hang in there; it can't last forever.
