People ask me all the time, "What happens if it rains the day my shoot is scheduled?" Here's my answer: First, Georgia weather is completely unpredictable; it could be raining in one neighborhood and not on the other side of town. I know because this has happened to me. I was able to shoot an entire session in Canton with absolutely no sign of rain but it had poured at my house in Woodstock for almost an hour while I was gone. Second, I used to reschedule if the forecast looked bad and then I would regret it the next day or later that same day because it would be beautiful outside! That only ends up wasting an evening for myself and clients who already had it scheduled and now we have to mark time off for another day. Your time is valuable and so is mine! If we can stick to our original plans then it benefits everyone. Scheduling around sports practices and work schedules isn't easy and having to do it multiple times would only be frustrating. Third and finally, I've done sessions where it rained lightly on and off for the entire session and we just took those raining moments to take a break or do a clothes change or find a covered location to shoot in. Even in a worst case scenario, I'd rather do our best to try and get some pictures done and if it just seems impossible to finish then we try again!
That's what happened during Ethan's session.
When we showed up in downtown Marietta it was very cloudy but not yet raining. I think overcast/cloudy skies can be really beautiful especially in an urban location. We finished up his pictures in two different outfits before it was obvious from the weather radar that the rain was only going to get harder and not give us enough of a break to do pictures in his final outfit, which we had planned for a natural setting not far from downtown. We decided to call it a night and scheduled the last half of his session for a different day. But getting those first pictures done in spite of the weather actually helped us to get more variety and allowed us to change our natural location to something farther away that wouldn't have been an option if we'd had to do everything in one night. So I'd say everything worked out beautifully!
The pictures above were all taken with my digital camera and the pictures below were all taken with my film camera. The difference in colors and skin tone definitely shows up and reinforces that I prefer the film. It's such a unique look and I love it!
