One week from today the Class of 2018 will be crossing the stage to receive their diplomas! That means soon I will be taking the senior pictures for Class of 2019! There are so many extra things to prepare for and a lot of information to gather before your senior year begins. As we head into summer I know there might be some confusion over senior portraits - formal yearbook picture, senior ads for yearbook, senior portrait sessions, deadlines, etc. This post should help answer some of the questions you have!
In Cherokee County public schools your picture for the yearbook must be taken by whichever photography studio the school is contracted with. Most of these larger companies provide only an in-studio experience with props and backgrounds. You probably already have an appointment for this session. This is when you'll wear the velvet wrap (girls) or a tux jacket (guys) for your yearbook photo. You have the option to have a longer session at that studio with different backdrops and an outfit change. Some of the backdrops are plain or pastel paintings and some are a set of lockers or a pretend doorway. Each student from your school that chooses a casual session from the school photographer gets just those same choices. Your portrait appointment will be in summer before senior year begins so that your yearbook picture will be submitted by the deadline. OR you CAN choose to have just your formal yearbook picture taken by the school photographer (there is usually about a $25-$40 fee for the formal picture) and then choose to have your full session with a photographer of your choice. Why choose this option?
Here are some reasons why you might choose to have your yearbook picture taken by the school photographer but come to me for your full portrait session: If you are looking for a more personalized experience and choose to have your pictures done by me then you have an unlimited amount of choices! You would still keep your yearbook picture appointment with the school photographer during the summer and book your casual session separately with me. If you want your senior portraits to be part of a senior ad in the yearbook then you will want to book your session with me in the summer or just after school starts in August or early September. The deadline for yearbook is typically the first week of October so pictures need to be taken at least 3 weeks before that deadline. If your senior ad will be mostly baby pictures or phone pictures then you can book your session later when the temperatures cool off because you don't have to include your senior pictures in your ad.
When you have your senior pictures done by me I ask you about your style and interests and I tailor your session to what you want! Maybe you want an urban setting, like Katlyn's in Atlanta or Payton's session in Alpharetta, or a natural setting, like Madison's autumn session or Morgan's lake location. You might have a location that is special to you and your family, like Natalie's in the mountains or Collin's session at Etowah's football stadium. Maybe you want to try something really unique, like Savannah's at a Marietta paper mill ruin, Mikey's red, white and blue session or Elyssa's sunflower location. Planning your session just for you is one of the parts of my job that is so fun and I love finding new places to shoot!
Below is a quick comparison of the differences between choosing the school photographer or choosing a more boutique and personalized session with me. I'm really looking forward to talking to you and giving you an experience you will love and be excited about! Call me at (678) 637-7518 or send me a message on my contact page to tell me what kind of senior portrait session you'd like.
